There are no Russian citizens among the killed and injured in the air crash on the Phuket Island of Thailand
There are no Russian citizens among the killed and injured in the air crash on the Phuket Island of Thailand, officials of the island police and administration, as well as leadership of One Two Go Airlines that owns the plane said on Monday. Head of the consular department of the Russian embassy to Thailand Vladimir Pronin told Itar-Tass, “The Russian embassy is maintaining close contact with corresponding Thai agencies. According to their information, there were no Russian citizens aboard the crashed airliner.” The OG-269 flight of the low-cost One Two Go Airlines was bound from Bangkok to Phuket. According to a preliminary version, the accident could have been caused by bad weather. The airliner skidded off the runway, hit trees and burst into flames falling apart. A total of 88 people died and 42 were injured in the catastrophe. Six of the injured are in a grave condition at hospital with burns of 60 percent of their body. Among the crash survivors are citizens of Austria, Great Britain, Germany, Iran, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Thailand and Sweden. According to specified reports, the plane carried 123 passengers, including 78 foreigners and seven crewmembers. According to eyewitnesses, the plane was landing at a very great speed. The pilot possibly changed his mind at the last moment and decided not to land and made a violent manoeuvre in order to ascend, but failed. Thai Deputy Transport Minister Sansern Wongcha-um said that the plane’ s flight recorders have already been found. “We will have to wait for the actual cause of the accident. We will send the black box to the United States. It will take one week to analyse,” Sansern told Thailand’s Channel 7 television. The Thai island Phuket is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Southeast Asia. Millions of foreign tourists spend their holidays there.
