The State Duma lower house of the Russian parliament has adopted on Tuesday a law on Day of Memory and Sorrow
The State Duma lower house of the Russian parliament has adopted on Tuesday a law on Day of Memory and Sorrow -- the Day of the Beginning of the Great Patriotic War (1941). Following the adoption of the law, Article 1 of the current Federal Law "On Days of Military Glory and Memorable Dates of Russia" will read as follows: "The following memorable dates are established in the Russian Federation (RF): January 25 -- Day of Russian Students; April 12 -- Day of Cosmonautics; June 22 -- Day of Memory and Sorrow -- Day of the Beginning of the Great Patriotic War (1941); September 3 -- Day of Solidarity in the Fight Against Terrorism; November 7 -- 1917 October Revolution Day; December 9 -- Day of Heroes of the Fatherland; December 12 -- Day of Constitution of the RF". A respective amendment is to be introduced to the Federal law "On Days of Military Glory and Memorable Dates of Russia". In an official resolution, Vice-Premier Alexander Zhukov informed deputies that the government supports the introduction of the new memorable date. On June 22, the resolution of the government notes, “Russia’s peoples grieve over their compatriots who at the cost of their life defended the country in the years of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 and fell preys to other wars.
