Vladimir Kozhin believes that the best way to settle the problem of removal of Lenin’s body from the Mausoleum is to hold a referendum
Head of the Russian presidential property management department Vladimir Kozhin believes that the best way to settle the problem of removal of Lenin’s body from the Mausoleum is to hold a referendum. “I have already said several times and will repeat to you: I’m certain that at present we must not touch anything,” Kozhin stressed in an interview published by the Rossiiskaya Gazeta daily on Wednesday. “We are just moving away from the revolution, from endless political battles, the country has started to live normally, work and get richer. But is we just touch this sensitive issue - the wave will roll throughout the country and rouse our parents, grandmothers, grandfathers...,” believes Kozhin. “Certainly, a necropolis in the centre of the country is nonsense. But let others to decide to be it there or not. The best way for this is a referendum,” Kozhin said. “So if 80 percent of the population say that Lenin should be buried then some decision making will be necessary, but not earlier,” the official noted. The presidential property management department head said that the Lenin Mausoleum is on the books of the Russian Federal Guard Service. “The expenditure for the maintenance of the temperature regime, guarding and medicinal measures accounts for several tens of millions of roubles a year, it is not a big sum,” Kozhin said.
