Acute intestinal infection cases were registered on Wednesday in three districts the Altai Territory
Acute intestinal infection cases were registered on Wednesday in three districts the Altai Territory with a population of 55,000 in southern Siberia. Initial cases of intestinal infection have been identified in the Soloneshensky, Altaisky and Kytmanovsky districts, a spokesperson at the territorial department of the oversight service Rospotrebnadzoer told ITAR-TASS on Wednesday. Of 37 people who sought medical care in the Soloneshensky district, 16 have been hospitalised. The infection outbreak was the most massive in the Altaisky district, where 78 people, mostly children, needed medical care. Several cases have even detected in the village of Novaya Taraba in the Kytmanovsky district. “The situation has been put under special control of the Rospotrebnadzoer department and administrations of the districts that the epidemic has touched. Tests samples are being obtained, and massive prophylaxis among the local population is being carried out. Fifty-five people are taking a course of treatment in hospitals,” the spokesperson said. Specialists said food shops, schools and water supply systems were being checked in the infection-affected areas. Only bottled water is allowed to be served in kindergartens and schools, and a ban on selling unpacked food has been introduced. Specialists relate the infection outbreak to bad food or water. All in all about 100 administrative cases have been opened against senior officials of the municipal and housing sector, health centres, and catering services
