Russia beat England 2-1 in a European Cup qualifier in the E Group in Moscow on Wednesday, thus keeping its chance to play in the Europe 2008 finals. Roman Pavlyuchenko of Spartak Moscow scored the winning goal to the roar of almost 80,000 football fans at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium. Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov attended the game too. On the 69th minute, Pavlyuchenko scored with a penalty kick and four minutes later scored again. England scored on the 29th minute. Now Russia has 21 points after 10 games. Croatia leads in the E Group with 26 points after 10 games, followed by England with 21 points after 11 games. The two teams with the largest number of points will play in the finals. Russia will take on Israel on November 17 and Andorra on November 21 in away games. England will play against Croatia at home on November 21.
