Russia issues gold and silver coins
The Bank of Russia on Thursday put gold and silver memorable coins in circulation. The coins belong to the “Signs of the Zodiac” series and have the Aquarius sign depicted on their facial side. The golden coin has a value of 50 roubles while the silver coin has a value of three roubles, a source at the Bank of Russia’s Foreign and Public Relations Department told Itar-Tass. The source said that the coins didn’t differ from each other by appearance. The double-headed eagle and an inscription saying “The Bank of Russia” are depicted on their front side. The reverse side of the coins has a relief depiction of a young man pouring water out of a jug. Besides, the coins show the stars from the Aquarius Constellation and the Aquarius sign on the right side. The golden coin has a mass of 7.78 grams in pure gold, the purity of gold is 999. The golden coin is slightly over 22 millimeters in diameter. The silver coin has a mass of 31.1 grams in pure silver, the silver standard is 900. It has 39 millimeters in diameter. The Bank of Russia will issue up to 30,000 coins of each type. The Central Bank officials say that these coins can be used as payment means any time with no restriction.
