Interpol - Alexander Konanykhin extradited
Russia's Interpol office has all the papers ready to have Alexander Konanykhin extradited, Sergei Pismensky, acting chief of the central national Interpol bureau under Russia's Interior Ministry, said on Friday. Once a prosperous banker, Konanykhin is suspected of large-scale fraud, and has been on the international "wanted" list since 1996. The top Russian prosecutor's office duly confirmed the need of tracking him every year. Interpol is keeping the USA and Canada informed about the case, Pismensky said. "Russia has no bilateral extradition agreements with the USA and Canada, so the matter has to be settled proceeding from Interpol regulations and the involved parties' mutual goodwill. If our overseas colleagues have any doubt on the case, it is up to Russia's Foreign Ministry and the Prosecutor General's officers to negotiate. They will offer whatever supplementary papers that may be necessary. The papers the Foreign Ministry may need are all ready," the source said. Interpol has not officially notified Russia to this day of Konanykhin’s detention, he added. Alexander Konanykhin was detained on the frontier in an attempt to illegally enter Canada three weeks ago. The USA deprived him of asylum in November and the suspect was to be deported to Russia within thirty days
