The Seventh Russian Art Festival, which will take place on the French Cote d'Azur from August 24 to 28, will open with a performance of "Russian Night."
This is the first time the performance will be included in the program of our festival," Yelena Trukhanova, a member of the organizing committee, said in an interview with RIA Novosti. The audience will have a chance to enjoy popular Gypsy and Russian songs and dances. Apart from that, they will be treated to traditional Russian cuisine. The world famous Igor Moiseyev Dance Company will have the honor of opening the festival. The State Academic Theatre of Classical Ballet headed by Natalia Kasatkina and Vladimir Vasilyev will present two Tchaikovsky ballets: "The Nutcracker" and "Sleeping Beauty." "Sleeping Beauty was specially prepared for the festival. Movie fans will be able to see the films by Andrei Proshkin, Valery Todorovsky, Alexei Uchitel and Vera Storozheva. An exhibit of traditional Russian folk crafts will be held in one of the halls of the Festival Palace on La Croisette. Two ships from the Baltic Fleet, the Neustrashimy patrol craft and the Kaliningrad large landing ship, will be docked in the port of Cannes. Performances by the orchestra of the Fleet Headquarters and the female drummers' company from Surgut (Eastern Siberia) have also been included in the festival's program. The Russian Cultural Fund is one of the main organizers of the festival. The festival is regarded as a main Russian state cultural project in France. The mayor of Cannes said before the opening of the festival that the city "will be happy to receive the best of the Russian art in an atmosphere of a sincere friendship and sympathy."
