Terrorist methods are incompatible with a real protection of the liberty of conscience
Terrorist methods are incompatible with a real protection of the liberty of conscience, no matter how somebody may try to do it. Commenting on the demands of the Iraqi terrorists, advanced to the French leadership, to annul the law banning the use of religious clothes and symbols in the country's state schools, State Duma Speaker Boris Gryzlov said this to parliamentary reporters on Tuesday. Earlier, the Iraqi militants seized two French journalists and presented an ultimatum to the authorities of France. "I do not see the reason to believe that French society strives to limit the right of their citizens to the liberty of conscience," Gryzlov underscored. According to him, the causes of kidnapping the French citizens are most likely connected with the events in Iraq, rather than with the events in France. The State Duma Speaker supported the efforts aimed at freeing the French journalists. "The forces which do not attach any importance either to human life or to genuine religious values stand behind this kidnapping," pointed out the Chairman of the Lower House of the Russian Parliament.
