A village in Indonesia's East Java province, is under siege
A village in Indonesia's East Java province, is under siege from hundreds of monkeys after their home was destroyed to make way for commercial houses, the Antara news agency said on Friday.

The village's problems began around three months ago when hundreds of macaque monkeys from a nearby park, partially cleared for the construction of cottages and commercial buildings, began raiding the village in search of food.

"They entered my house by breaking the roof and stole food," the agency quotes a local resident as saying. Another villager added that about 30 macaques broke into her house everyday.

Villagers say the animals are often aggressive and attack people.
