GAZ-3307 automobile will be delievered to Iraq soon
The Nizhny Novgorod (Gorky) automobile plant (GAZ) plans to deliver to Iraq 300 pieces of special equipment based on Zemlyak, the motor-operated GAZ-3307 automobile. This information was disclosed on Thursday by Viktor Maslennikov, the marketing director of the Russian automotive industry leader. According to him, the contract on the delivery of special automobiles was signed last summer with private structures. The cost of the contract is not disclosed. The GAZ marketing director pointed out that this was not the last contract with Iraqi companies. The deliveries of the GAZ automobiles to the country will continue. Earlier the Nizhny Novgorod (Gorky) plant fulfilled contracts for the delivery to Iraq of 5,000 Volga cars, 3,000 GAZel board trucks, and more than 600 GAZ-33081 Sadko trucks. All the contracts were concluded through Rosoboronexport, the only Russian state mediator in the field of military and double-purpose exports. Mr. Maslennikov also reported that this year the GAZ plant exports 47,000 automobiles. In 2003, the figure was 39,000. "It is good dynamics. Exports should reach 25% of the total volume of the automobiles' sales. Now the sales volume is 20-22%," he said. In 2004, GAZ is expected to assemble 231,000 automobiles. Over the eight months of this year, the plant produced 158,787 automobiles and machine-sets.
