Over 40 Washington D.C. municipal employees have been fired or suspended
Over 40 Washington D.C. municipal employees have been fired or suspended from work for visiting pornographic websites during working hours, WTOP News said on Friday.

An investigation revealed that workers employed by 18 government agencies, including child and family services and the attorney general's office, had frequently visited pornographic websites last year.

"It's outrageous that people should access hard-core pornography, but to do it on government time...," D.C. Attorney General Peter Nickles said.

"This will not be tolerated in our government, and least of all in the Office of the Attorney General," he went on.

A probe proved that nine employees, both male and female, had clicked on porn links nearly 20,000 times last year, an average of 100 visits a day. These employees were dismissed.

In addition to this, another 32 workers who visited pornography sites on average 10 times per day have been suspended from work and could also be fired.

The investigation began last year after an employee at the city's Property Management office complained about his colleagues' use of government computers for frequenting porn sites and downloading pornographic content.

"We have a system for tracking people's use and redirecting people's computers away from those sites, to get people back to work," said D.C. City Administrator Dan Tangherlini.
