A pro-Kremlin United Russia party MP has submitted a bill to the lower house of Russia's parliament to prevent people from reading erotic material in public places.

Robert Schlegel's draft law proposes amendments to the law to make it an offense to "read erotic material in a public place," proposing fines of 500 rubles ($20.5) to 1,000 rubles ($41).

The bill also envisions fines for transporting material in see-through packets.

Schlegel suggested that media law be supplemented with a provision prohibiting the reading of erotica in public places.
