Patriarch Alexis II of Moscow and All Russia has come out for close anti-terrorist cooperation of religious organizations, state and society
"We need genuine partnership of religious organizations, state and society," the Patriarch said at the Wednesday session of the council for interaction with religious organizations under the Russian President. "I am happy that this partnership is getting more active and substantial," he noted. He reminded those present that in Russia the church and religious confessions are separated from the state. "This should not mean building of a wall. We have many public goals - to maintain religious dialogue and bring up peacefulness, tolerance and respect. We should prove our friends and enemies that Russia cannot be intimidated. It is ready to protect its values, originality and spiritual freedom," Alexis II stressed. According to him, "today Russia is going through a new outburst of terror with sorrow and courage". "Monstrous crimes aim to suppress the will and undermine the unity of the country. We are also facing the real danger of inter-religious discord," the Patriarch noted. In his words, terrorists have earthly goals but try to justify themselves with religious phraseology. Genuine believers but not educated people often follow terrorist ideologists, Alexis II said. "Therefore, it is important to oppose religion against hostility," he emphasized.
