Two large terrorist bases containing weapons and ammunition were destroyed in Ingushetia
Two large terrorist bases containing weapons and ammunition were destroyed in Ingushetia, the regional headquarters for the North Caucuses operation reported. "Yesterday, a resident of the village of Surkhakhi in the Republic of Ingushetia [borders on Chechnya to the east], told a commander of a federal forces units that when he was working in the fields near his village, he noticed an armed group of militants," a spokesman for the headquarters recalled. The federal forces checked the information and discovered a militant base about 2.5 km from Surkhakhi. The base comprises two bunkers for 10 men each, two observation posts, guard points and specially equipped areas where the militants ate, the spokesman said. The bunkers contained four anti-tank grenade launchers, two 200g cakes of TNT, 721 cartridges, two Kenwood radio transmitters, winter camouflage uniforms, civil clothes, maps of Chechnya, an Arabic dictionary, religious literature and about 100kg of food. Later, near the base (3 km northeast of Surkhakhi), federal forces found two other bunkers for five men each. The bunkers contained 33 rounds to an under-barrel grenade launcher, three grenades, electric detonators, 460 cartridges, 14 homemade explosive devices, winter uniforms and 0.5kg of medicine, the spokesman said. The buildings were destroyed and the weapons and ammunition were handed over to the police. Presently, measures are being taken to find and detain members of the bandit units, the spokesman said.
