A truck taking Hindu pilgrims to the Ganges River crashed killing
A truck taking Hindu pilgrims to the Ganges River crashed killing 11 people and injuring 20 in northern India, the Indo-Asian News Service reported on Wednesday.

The accident occurred late on Tuesday 70 km (43 miles) from Agra, where the Taj Mahal is located. The pilgrims had planned to collect sacred river water to take part in a religious festival to be held on Thursday.

The agency cited eyewitnesses as saying the truck, which was also carrying sacks of cement, overturned when the driver tried to avoid a collision with a tractor.

Increasingly large numbers of pilgrims travel to the Ganges River each year. Last September at least 10 pilgrims were killed by a train on a rail bridge.
