Prime Minister of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) Ahmed Qurei will visit Moscow from October 3 to 5
As PNA Deputy Foreign Minister Abdallah Abdallah said in an interview with RIA Novosti that during his visit, Mr. Qurei plans to meet with Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and State Duma Speaker Boris Gryzlov. "Ahmed Qurei's visit to Moscow will confirm Palestine's position on the Middle East settlement and the PNA's adherence to a peace process and stability in the region," he said. According to him, the Palestinians appreciate Russia's support in settling the situation in the Middle East. "The PNA hopes for support from Russia, a member of the UN Security Council and the quartet of the international mediators in the Middle East settlement," he said. "I believe that Russia's efforts can become one of the main factors in promoting the fulfillment of the road map." He also noted that Russia proposed the UN Security Council adopt the resolution that became the road map, a document that all members of the international community rely on. In assessing the Middle East quartet (Russia, the US, the UN and the European Union), he said the United States' position was the main reason the quartet's decisions were ineffective. "The United States supports Israel," he said, "it justifies its actions, including crimes against the Palestinian people. An international mediator should not behave in such a way. Its task is not to help one of the sides evade responsibility, but to contribute to the negotiation process."
