Death rate will dominate over birth rate in Russia until 2010-2012, head of the population census and demographic statistics department of the Russian federal state statistics service Irina Zbarskaya told a press conference. "Our demographic forecasts are not optimistic. Russia's population will be reducing," she said. Meanwhile, life expectancy for women and men in Russia will be growing after 2008-2010, Ms. Zbarskaya added. At the moment, life expectancy for men in Russia is 58 years and for women - 72 years, she said. In developed countries life expectancy for men is 77-78 years. In her words, the gap between life expectancy for men and women is typical of Russia. According to the latest population census, there are 10 million more women in Russia than men while in 1989 it was 9.5 million. Irina Zbarskaya also said that, according to the latest population census, there are 6,652 people over 100 in Russia while in 1989 there were 10,235.
