Zenit St. Petersburg face Marseille at home on Wednesday with their fans hoping the side can repeat Spartak Moscow's recent 2-0 win over the French club to gain a place in the last eight of the UEFA Cup.

A late goal by Russian international Andrey Arshavin in France a week ago kept Zenit's chances of making progress to the quarter finals alive as the side went down 3-1 to Marseille in France last Thursday.

Marseille knocked Spartak Moscow out of the competition in the previous round, winning 3-0 at home before losing 2-0 in the Russian capital to go through 3-2 on aggregate.

Zenit looked as if they would share the Moscow club's fate after Djibril Cisse struck twice either side of a Mamadou Niang goal to give Marseille a commanding 3-0 lead with eight minutes remaining. However, Arshavin gave Zenit a flicker of hope with a well-taken goal in the 82nd minute, sprinting down the left of the pitch to lift the ball over the keeper in his trademark style.

A 2-0 victory will now be enough for Zenit to go through on the away goals rule.

Zenit have a number of key players back from disqualification and injury, and at a packed and snowy Petrovsky stadium the side are certain to attack from the start. Tickets for the match have already sold out, and Zenit's Russian international Konstantin Ziryanov promised the Sport Express daily on Wednesday that, "We will be stronger at home than we were away."

Zenit's Dutch coach, Dick Advocaat, will continue his three-match disqualification from the trainer's bench and the dressing room after being sent off during the club's last round UEFA Cup match against Spanish club Villarreal following an 'exchange of words' with the Austrian referee.

The match begins at 7:30 p.m. local time (16:30 GMT) and will be shown live on Russia's 'Sport' channel.
