Over 100 countries have presented their books at the 56th book fair in Frankfurt
Annual participation in the fair has long become habitual for book publishers. However, failing to come in October to Frankfurt is equal to disregarding a royal ball, writes Rossiiskaya Gazeta. Russian book publishing is represented at the united stand "New publishing houses of Russia." A small literature program is envisaged during the fair. Writer Sergei Bolmat, who lives in Germany and writes in Russian, will conduct a talk show "In the air" - the name of his latest novel published last summer by the Inostrannaya Literatura publishing house; the NLO publishing house will teach the audience how to seek masterpieces of literature. A round table will be held on Thursday; it will deal with German prose and its readers in Russia. Besides, the exhibition participants will tell the visitors about modern Russia and Russian prose. Andrei Zvyagintsev's The Return will be screened and discussed. Unfortunately, this book forum in Frankfurt won't see such an influx of writers from Russia as last year. This time, Russian publishers will take an active part in the prestigious book forum. Frankfurt became a book printing and later a trade center at the end of the 15th century. Twice a year, booksellers, translators, bookbinders, engravers and academics who appreciated sophisticated speech and scientific discussions came here. Before the 19th century, the Frankfurt book fair was inferior to the Leipzig one, but then it gradually pushed the rival aside. The International Book Fair in Frankfurt has existed in the form we know it today since 1949.
