Yahoo has rolled out a test version of its search service that helps users personalise results
Yahoo, in a fierce market battle with web search leader Google, has rolled out a test version of its search service that helps users personalise results. Called "My Yahoo Search" , the test service aims to help users better find, manage and share search engine results. Among other things, the new service enables users to save web pages that they can later search or share with friends. The service also enables users to block "search spam," or certain search results that the user doesn't deem valuable, wrote New Zealand Herald. According to the eWeek News, the public preview of MSN's upcoming search engine is back, this time with a Web index about five times fatter and reworked relevancy algorithms. Microsoft Corp.'s Internet division launched the second preview on Monday for the United States and plans to expand it to a total of 29 markets in 12 languages by Thursday, an MSN official confirmed. MSN's latest search preview follows a two-month test that went offline in August. The latest preview incorporates feedback from the earlier alpha test as well as expands the index to more than 5 billion Web documents, said Justin Osmer, an MSN product manager, in a statement. The new Yahoo search tools will also enable users to share their results through e-mail or "RSS" ? shorthand for Really Simple Syndication. Relying on a steady stream of traffic to increase their advertising revenue, the major search engines hope that by adding the new search tools visitors will be encouraged to return to their sites more frequently and stay longer once they're there. Yahoo expects to begin testing the new features Tuesday at http://next.yahoo.com
