Israeli troops killed one Hamas militant and wounded two others
Israeli troops killed one Hamas militant and wounded two others in a raid in the south of the Gaza Strip, Palestinian medical staff said on Wednesday.

Israeli radio said that two soldiers were slightly wounded and one killed in the course of the operation, which was aimed at stopping cross-border rocket fire from Gaza into the southern Israeli border towns.

This operation by Israeli troops is the second in the past 24 hours. According to the Israeli military, two militants in possession of small arms and anti-tank grenade launchers were killed on Tuesday.

The operation took place near Jabalia, the largest Palestinian refugee camp, where a large-scale Israeli ground operation took the lives of at least 60 Palestinians in late February.

Gaza is controlled by the hard-line Islamic group Hamas, which seized control of the enclave from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement last June.
