Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko will go to Israel on a working
Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko will go to Israel on a working visit May 13 to take part in events commemorating the 60th anniversary of the creation of the Jewish state, the Ukrainian presidential press office said Tuesday.

World leaders, including U.S. President George Bush, will visit Israel this week to participate in the celebrations. Israel declared itself an independent state on May 14, 1948.

On May 8, Israel celebrated Remembrance Day, honoring the more than 20,000 soldiers and civilians who have lost their lives in the country's many wars, terrorist attacks and in the struggle for independence.

On May 13-15, Jerusalem will host an international conference, 'A Look into Tomorrow,' to be attended by a number of dignitaries, including Sergei Mironov, the speaker of Russia's upper house of parliament, and ex-Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev.
