Two traffic officers were injured in Nazran, in Russia's North Caucasus
Two traffic officers were injured in Nazran, in Russia's North Caucasus republic of Ingushetia, when unidentified assailants opened fire on their car, local police said Tuesday.

The attack occurred at 11:40 Moscow time (07:40 GMT) Tuesday while the officers were on duty. "Two officers received various gunshot wounds and were admitted to hospital," a spokesman said.

An investigation is underway.

Sporadic terrorist attacks and militant clashes remain common in Russia's North Caucasus republics, although the active phase of the Kremlin campaign to fight militants and terrorists in Chechnya is officially over. Violence often spills over into neighboring republics, in particular Ingushetia and Daghestan.
