Over nine months in 2004, the Gorky car works (GAZ) has exported 28,470 automobiles to the CIS and foreign countries, its press service said on Wednesday. In all, the works has manufactured 179,634 automobiles. The main markets for GAZ vehicles are Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Armenia and other countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Since the start of this year, 19,528 automobiles and equipment sets have been exported to countries of the CIS and 8,942 automobiles to foreign countries, 8,643 of them to Iraq. Contracts with South Africa (50 taxi buses), Nigeria (55 buses), Cuba (37 cars and light trucks), have been fulfilled in full, the press service said. The Gorky works plans to increase export activities to markets in East and West Europe - Serbia and Montenegro, Estonia, Bulgaria, Germany. Shipments have been made also to Algeria, Iran, Angola, Guinea, Indonesia, India, Korea, Laos, Mongolia, Turkey. In July 2004 the Economic Development and Trade Ministry found the Gorky works as the best exporter in the automaking industry for its top foreign economic indicators. In 2003 the Gorky works exported over 39,000 automobiles.
