Luc Bourdon, a defenseman for NHL's Vancouver Canucks, was killed
Luc Bourdon, a defenseman for NHL's Vancouver Canucks, was killed on Thursday afternoon in a road accident near his hometown of Shippagan, eastern Canada, the NHL website said on Friday.

Bourdon, who won the world junior ice hockey championship twice with the Canadian team, was killed at the age of 21 after his motorbike crashed into a tractor-trailer on a road between Shippagan and Lameque in Gloucester County.

"Luc was an extremely talented player with a bright future. He brought great passion to the game and was a valued team member on and off the ice. He will be greatly missed," the NHL website quoted Canucks General Manager Mike Gillis as saying.

Bourdon's career in North America's National Hockey League began in 2005 when he was a first-round draft pick, selected 10th overall for Canucks.
