Russia's grain production amounted to 73.5m
Russia will export 5m tons of grain in 2004, Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Agriculture Minister Alexey Gordeyev told journalists today. The minister pointed out that Russian grain will be supplied to traditional consumers, including Moldova and Ukraine. According to statistics of the Agriculture Ministry, Russia's grain production amounted to 73.5m tons last year. In the 2001-2002 season the country exported, according to different estimations, from 5.5m to 7m tons of grain. These had been Russia's first grain exports over the previous 70 years. In the 2001-2002 season Russia was among the world's top ten wheat exporters. According to various estimations, Russian grain exports were 16m to 17m tons in the 2002-2003 season.
