Russia's government will set up special economic zones at airports
Russia's government will set up special economic zones at airports and ports in three regions, the Transport Ministry said on Tuesday, announcing the results of tenders to develop the zones.

Special economic zones at transport hubs are intended to attract both domestic and foreign investment in order to develop regional infrastructure by offering tax and other benefits to businesses.

The zones will be created at the airports of Krasnoyarsk in East Siberia and Ulyanovsk in the Volga area, and at the Sovetskaya Gavan port in the Khabarovsk Territory, in the Far East.

The Transport Ministry said that the creation of a special economic zone at Krasnoyarsk's Yemelyanovo airport would contribute to the implementation of a project to develop a large transport hub in the region and help turn Russia into an international transport corridor to handle cargo flows from Asia.

The special economic zone at Ulyanovsk's airport will help increase cargo flows, as well as develop and expand the potential of the regional aircraft repair complex, while the special economic zone at Sovetskaya Gavan in Khabarovsk will help regional authorities develop projects for ship repairs and fish processing, the Transport Ministry also said.
