The presidential elections in Ukraine will take place under tough outward pressure
The presidential elections in Ukraine will take place under tough outward pressure, believes Vladimir Rushailo, CIS Executive Secretary. "The forthcoming presidential elections in Ukrainian will take place under tough pressure," he told journalists. He recalled the results of the parliamentary elections and referendum in Belarus that had also experienced "outward pressure". "On the day of the elections [in Belarus] we met OSCE observers. Their criticisms were not different from ours," he said. "If violations are found, a protocol is drafted," Rushailo emphasized. "What prevents the OSCE from documenting all the violations? Where are the protocols?" he asked. CIS observers do not assess the results of the elections, they monitor preparations and the elections themselves, he pointed out. "We made a statement when the votes had not been counted. The tough [OSCE] statement came after the counting was completed. Who gives them right to assess the results of elections in another country?" he wondered. Rushailo pointed out that at the Ukrainian elections the CIS observers would adjust their work in compliance with the Belarussian experience. "We will adjust our work, work more actively with mass media, coordinate our activities with representative of other international organizations. We do not work in the "against" regime, although we have different assessments," he concluded.
