The second Accordion Russia's Soul international festival opens at the Central House of Artists in Moscow on Monday
The organizing committee told RIA Novosti that the festival would include "virtuoso folk and pop performers who are well-known in Russia and abroad." During the festival the concerts, Russian Accordion Stars, Variety Mosaics, Magic Accordion, and Fantasy in a Retro Style, will be held at the Russian Accordion Museum in Moscow during the festival. The festival was organized on the initiative of the only accordion museum in Russia, the Russian Accordion Museum. The purpose of the festival is to revive lost musical traditions and return to the sources of national creativity. The performers will play a wide range of instruments including: accordions, concertinas, harmonicas and other instruments. As a result of many years of study and research, well-known Russian specialist and the founder of the museum, Professor Alfred Mirek, proved that the method to produce sounds, used in the accordion, was invented in 1780 by a Czech organ maker, Frantisek Kirsnik (1741-1802). Mr. Kirsnik lived and worked in St. Petersburg. He created a completely new musical instrument that is distinguished by vivid and rich phonation. Mr. Kirsnik's design of the accordion's main component, the bar, has not changed and has been used in different types of accordions since that time. Mr. Mirek's research convinced the world that Mr. Kirsnik's invention made Russia the birthplace of the accordion. There are many different types of accordions, they range from harmonicas to concertinas, which can replace an entire orchestra. The harmonica, the treadle and manual accordions, the harmonium, the melodion, the bandoneon are also accordions. There are many different types of Russian accordions too. These accordions were named after where they were invented or where they became popular. These instruments are so unique that Mr. Mirek asserts that it is impossible to perform music for a Saratov accordion, which was created in the Volga area, on a St. Petersburg accordion.
