Sportsmen from over 50 countries to participate in 11th Moscow international judo tournament
MOSCOW, January 21 (RIA Novosti) - Sportsmen from over 50 countries will participate in the 11th Moscow international judo tournament in Super A category, spokesperson for the Russian State Sports Committee, Tatiana Podorozhnaya told RIA Novosti on Wednesday. National teams of Japan, Korea, France, Brazil, Germany, Canada, Great Britain, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, the CIS and Baltic States will participate in the competitions in the Luzhniki sports center on January 24-25. The Russian team will include prizewinners of the last Russian championship and major international competitions. Their main rivals will be the Japanese, Korean, French and German teams, said Vice President of he European Judo Union, Sergei Soloveichik. The tournament will be held in 14 weight categories (7 women's and 7 men's categories). The judoists will be fighting for the right to participate in the Summer Olympic Games-2004 in Athens. This major judo tournament will increase Moscow's chances to host the 30th Summer Olympic Games in 2012, Chairman of the Moscow Sports Committee, Sergei Korol said.
