Heavy rain and storms have killed at least 12 people in southern
Heavy rain and storms have killed at least 12 people in southern China with meteorologists forecasting further rain, the China Daily newspaper reported on Monday.

The death toll includes three children, while seven people are still missing. The disaster has affected three million people, and caused damage estimated at $102 million in 25 cities and counties in the central Hubei province.

Near the capital, Beijing, strong winds destroyed a poultry farm, a main supplier to Beijing's well-known restaurant chain, Quanjude. A total of 80,000 ducks were killed in the storms, threatening price hikes and the availability of China's famous dish, Peking Duck.

Weather forecasters expect more heavy rain to hit the south of the country over the next three days.
