Jordan's foreign minister will arrive in Moscow on Thursday for talks
Jordan's foreign minister will arrive in Moscow on Thursday for talks with his Russian counterpart on the Mideast peace process and other regional issues.

The Russian Foreign Ministry's spokesman said Dr. Salaheddin Al-Bashir and Sergei Lavrov will discuss the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, as well as "the issue of stabilizing the situation in Iraq, with a focus on increasing the role of the international community in these efforts."

"Attention will also be given to the situation surrounding the Iranian nuclear program," Andrei Nesterenko told RIA Novosti.

The controversy surrounding Iran's nuclear program, believed by Western nations to be a cover for nuclear weapons production, has been fueled by the country's recent tests of long and medium-range missiles, capable of reaching Israel or Pakistan.

Another prominent issue for the talks in Moscow will be the situation in Lebanon, plagued by violence between sectarian groups despite Wednesday's ceasefire.

The ministers will discuss the need for rival political forces to fulfill commitments reached in a May 21 power-sharing deal in Doha between the ruling majority and the Shiite opposition.

Lavrov and Al-Bashir will also discuss Russian-Jordanian cooperation, and means of strengthening bilateral ties.
