At least 22 people have died following a head-on collision between a bus carrying school teachers and an empty fuel tanker in western Brazil, national media reported.

The accident occurred in the state of Rondonia, when the teachers were travelling to a seminar. Both vehicles burst into flames.

Both drivers along with 14 passengers of the bus, which was carrying 30, were burned alive, a police spokesman said. The rest escaped, but several later died in hospital.
