The average consumer in Russia has lately just started to take interest in IT products
The average consumer in Russia has lately just started to take interest in IT products. "We are entering the period of mass demand on PCs as available devices," Alexei Kudryavtsev, general director of Russia's IT corporation Kraftway Computers told Vremya Novostei. He said average assessments of the growth of demand on computer products, 25% annually, were quite real, adding that in a number of segments, this index was considerably exceeded. "Laptops have faced a twofold growth, and it will continue for some time," said Mr. Kudryavtsev. "The home system segment has seen a threefold growth." The corporate client is buying less, as most national systems have been equipped with computers. "Now this market demands only computer upgrade, which takes place once in 5-6 years," said the head of Kraftway. There are 14 million PCs in Russia, including laptops, 9 million out of them, in the corporate sector. The volumes of retail sales are growing faster today. Those who cannot compete with foreigners should have no place on the market, believes Mr. Kudryavtsev. That's why the state should not take care about the domestic producer. The main thing is to provide equal conditions. "Three-four years ago," he recalls, "the state supported Western producers being guided by the myth that only they can make high-quality products." Today the situation is changing: Russian-manufactured PCs hold firm positions in the segment. "In many respects, this is due to that local companies have a better support," explains the Kraftway head. "By the way, small manufacturers go to the sphere of service. Industrial assemblage ousts them from the PC market."
