The State Academic Classic Ballet Theater headed by Natalia Kasatkina and Vladimir Vasilev will present The Creation art-rock ballet after Andrei Petrov's music and Jean Effel's drawings
It will premiere in the State Kremlin Palace on November 13, the theater's press service said. The ballet is based on the biblical story of Adam and Eve. This legendary performance was staged by Kasatkina and Vasilev in 1971 in the Leningrad Kirov Academic Theater (today the Mariinsky Theater). Mikhail Baryshnikov danced the leading part. After that, 62 performances took place involving Yekaterina Maksimova, Stanislav Isayev, Vladimir Malakhov, etc. The Ballet Arlington Theater (U.S.) saw the last premiere in February 2004. The newest sound achievements inspired choreographers with an absolutely new interpretation of the performance involving virtuoso musicians and using state-of-the-art theatrical effects. Computer, guitars, keyboards, percussion and brasses will contribute to the modern sounding of Petrov's symphony music. The musicians were selected on a contest basis. A large-scale ballet is combined with live performance of rock musicians, virtuosos and Russia's best instrumentalists for the first time in The Creation's history. Honored Artists of Russia Ilgiz Galimullin, currently working in Japan, and Yekaterina Berezina, laureate of international competitions, will dance the parts of Adam and Eve. Moreover, the 75th birth anniversary of composer Andrei Petrov will be marked in 2005.
