The New Russian Culture Week starts in London on Wednesday
According to organizers of the event, it will become "a mini-festival of the modern Russian theater, dance, music and other forms of art, providing Londoners with the opportunity to feel the taste of rejuvenated Moscow." Theatrical performances and concerts will be held at three main stages. Well-known Russian dancer Tatiana Baganova and the "Provincial Dancing" group that recently participated in the New York dance festival will perform in front of the refined London audience. The Sirin choir will present sacred choral and other traditional songs, gathered in remote areas of Russia, at the Union Chapel in the Islington borough of Greater London. The Hermitage String Trio will perform the music of Shubert, Taneyev, and Beethoven. The new play of the well-known Russian playwright Lyudmila Petrushevskaya - "Bifem - a woman with two heads" is bound to attract the attention of theatergoers. The performance combines modern music, dances, original costumes and decorations. The organizers of the festival consider it one of the most progressive plays on the modern Russian stage. The performance staged by Russian designer, sculptor and artist Andrei Bartenev also promises to attract plenty of interest. Inspired by fashion trends and world music Mr. Bartenev will stage his production at the London Institute of Modern Art. "Beauty and suffering that are so characteristic of the Russian society created a new art language of the 21st century. This Russia is provoking and modern. It storms the world stage bringing there the most interesting rising stars," described the organizers the essence of the New Russian Culture Week, which will continue till November 9.
