Police have seized almost 14 kilograms of heroin in the Moscow Region, a police source said on Friday.

The haul was seized from a Tajik national in the town of Elektrougli, the Noginsk District.

"A search of the suspect and his Volkswagen car revealed 13.76 kilograms of heroin," the source said.

Tajikistan is a major gateway to Russia and other former Soviet republic for drugs from neighboring Afghanistan, the world's leader in heroin production.
