Russia-EU summit postponed
Members of European Commission regard with understanding the Russian proposal to postpone the Russia-EU summit in The Hague, previously scheduled for November 11, announced spokeswoman for the EU Commission Emma Udvin during a press conference in Brussels. She said that the postponement decision was made on Russia's request because the Russian side expressed the desire to conduct negotiations with representatives of the newly-elected EU Commission. Answering the question about the creation of joint areas of cooperation between Russia and the European Union, the spokeswoman for the EU Commission stated that "there are unsettled issues" in all 4 areas of cooperation that the EU regards as the basis for strategic partnership between Russia and EU " There are unsettled issues in all areas, notably in such an important for us sphere as external security space," Mrs. Udvin emphasized. At the same time, she pointed out that the European Commission maintained its course on the conclusion of the respective agreements with Russia in the shortest time possible. "It is clear that we still have a lot of work ahead of us," Mrs. Udvin said. She also announced that the new date for the summit had not been determined, yet. Russia and the EU had previously announced their intention to form 4 unified spaces of cooperation - in the sphere of economy; in the sphere of freedom, security and justice; in the sphere of external security; and in the sphere of scientific research and education, including cultural aspects.
