Five people were killed and two others injured in a car crash in central Kazakhstan, a local emergencies spokesman said Friday.

Two cars collided head-on late Thursday in the Karagandinsk region on the road linking Almaty, the largest city in Kazakhstan, and Russia's Urals city of Yekaterinburg.

Four passengers and the driver of a Lada vehicle died at the scene, while the driver of an Opel and his passenger were hospitalized with various injuries.
