Russian prosecutors have filed final charges against a former Finance Ministry
Russian prosecutors have filed final charges against a former Finance Ministry official arrested on suspicion of embezzlement, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office said on Monday.

Ex-deputy finance minister Sergei Storchak, who oversaw foreign debt talks at the ministry and was a key figure in Russia's talks with the Paris Club, was detained last November and accused of attempting to embezzle $43 million in state funds.

Russia's Investigation Committee earlier said his detention was related to the settlement of Soviet-era debts.

The investigation committee of the Russian Prosecutor General's Office said that in addition to the embezzlement charges, investigators have also accused Storchak with abuse of office.

Final charges were also brought against the other suspects in the 'Storchak case' - Vadim Volkov, head of the Interregional Investment Bank and Viktor Zakharov, general director of the Sodexim company.

Storchak has maintained his innocence throughout the investigation. If convicted, he faces between five and ten years in prison.
