Days of Russian Literature in France will begin in Paris on Monday.
Days of Russian Literature in France will begin with a gala concert in the Opera Bastille in Paris on Monday. RIA was told in the organising committee of the Days, held by the National Book Centre of the Ministry of Culture of France, that 12 Russian writers and poets will be the honour guests of the function. The main idea is to give the French readers, who know Russian classics well, a chance to learn about modern Russian literature. This is why representatives of different literary schools, trends and generations were chosen for the Days. Days of Russian Literature will last until November 27; by that time, the Russian writers and poets will present their works at meetings with readers in Bordeaux, Lyons, Marseilles, Rheims, and Aix-en-Provence. In all, they will travel through 31 French cities from Dunkirk in the north to Ajaccio in the southern island of Corsica, as well as Brussels and Charleroi in Belgium. The meetings and debates will be attended, apart from Russian guests, by French publishers, literary critics, translators, librarians, actors and journalists. The Actes Sud France publishing house printed a collection of works and passages by 12 Russian authors who attend the function. Days of foreign literature have been held in France since 1987. Their organisers say the decision to hold Days of Russian Literature this year was prompted by the gradual revival of Russian literature after the complicated 1990s, which encouraged interest for Russian literature abroad. Besides, this year's Days of Russian Literature will be a kind of preface to the Paris Book Fair 2005, where Russia will be an honorary professional guest
