The 2008 Kremlin Cup opens Monday in Moscow's Olimpiisky Stadium
The 2008 Kremlin Cup opens Monday in Moscow's Olimpiisky Stadium with tennis stars seeking a chunk of the $2.4 million prize pot.

This year the tournament, which ends October 12, will not be showcasing many of the top names, as the organizers of the tournament decided to devote it to young professional tennis players.

The prize money in women's singles comprises some $1.34 million, while the men's singles competition has $1.05 million up for grabs.

Last year the women's singles title went to Russia's Yelena Dementieva, with the men's crown going to another Russian, Nikolai Davydenko, who also won the Kremlin Cup in 2006 and returns to defend his title this year.

The Kremlin Cup, held this year for the 19th time, was Russia's first international professional tournament and is one of the richest events in the ATP's (Association of Tennis Professionals) International Series.
