One serviceman has been killed and another wounded in southeast Chechnya
One serviceman has been killed and another wounded in southeast Chechnya during a gun attack on a polling station just days before local parliamentary elections.

The serviceman were on duty in the Chechen Vedensky District on Wednesday night when a group of unidentified militants opened fire on the polling station they were guarding.

"As a result of the attack, one serviceman died and his colleague was wounded and hospitalized," a local law enforcement source said.

Security has been tightened in the Chechen Republic prior to local parliamentary elections. Military officers and police have been deployed to maintain order and security at polling stations throughout the troubled region.

A total of 347 candidates from seven political parties are running for 41 seats in the Chechen Parliament.
