Christie's will hold a series of Russian art sales in London
Christie's will hold a series of Russian art sales in London on November 24-27, a spokesman for the auction house said on Thursday.

Russian Art Week will feature paintings, jewelry, weapons, porcelain, icons, books and manuscripts.

A highlight of the auction will be Natalia Goncharova's Still Life with Watermelons, which has not been on the market for 45 years and is expected to fetch $2.5-3.3 million.

Another top item will be a Russian silver soup tureen "in the form of a fourteen gun warship from the Empress Catherine the Great's Black Sea Fleet Service", valued at $640,000 - $960,000.

The sales of Russian pictures, including post-war and contemporary artworks, to be held on November 25 and 26, will feature a collection of works by Ivan Pokhitonov (1851-1924) devoted to the artist's family.

Vladimir Baranoff-Rossine's Self-Portrait with Brush, valued at between $750,000 and $1.65 million, along with The Arrangement by Aleksei Harlamoff, valued at $1.2-1.5 million, are also among the top lots.

Following the successful sale of a Konstantin Somov Collection at Christie's London auction house last November, which fetched $10.5 million, the November auction will include Somov's Open Door on a Garden, a combination of still life and landscape, valued at $830,000-$1.2 million.

Russian Art Week will include several post-war and contemporary artists. For the first time, works by Oleg Tselkov, Ernst Neizvestny, Evgeny Rukhin and Vladimir Weisberg will go under the hammer.
