Bilateral trade between Kazakhstan and China will reach $15 billion
Bilateral trade between Kazakhstan and China will reach $15 billion in 2008, the Kazakh president said on Friday.

"In the first half of this year, trade was worth $6.5 billion, which is a 25% increase year-on-year, while this year we can realistically achieve a level of $15 billion," Nursultan Nazarbayev told the visiting Chinese prime minister, Wen Jiabao.

He also said there were no impediments to political or economic cooperation between Astana and Beijing.

Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Masimov said the two countries would complete the first stage of a Kazakhstan-China gas pipeline by the end of 2009.

Construction started in July 2008 and the pipeline was originally slated to go into operation in June 2010.

It should reach its maximum capacity of 40 billion cubic meters of gas a year by 2013.
