The crew of a Russian vessel has rescued 68 Somali nationals
The crew of a Russian vessel has rescued 68 Somali nationals who were stranded on a small boat around 75 miles south of Malta, the company that owns the Russian ship said on Wednesday.

The Somalis taken on board the Yelena Shatrova included 16 women and 13 children, a spokesman for the Far East Shipping Company said. The people are believed to have been traveling to Europe from the Tunisian capital, Tunis.

The Russian ship is now heading for the Maltese port of La Valletta. The Somalis will be handed over to local authorities on arrival.
