Gennady Sidorov's movie Old Women will represent Russia at the 31st international film festival in Goa
Gennady Sidorov's movie Old Women will represent Russia at the 31st international film festival in Goa, India, on November 29-December 9, head of the international department of the Russian Union of Filmmakers Yuri Kolosov told RIA Novosti. "We have been recently restoring our contacts with international festivals. Our feature and animation films and documentaries enjoy success at many festivals," he noted. For instance, Igor Maslennikov's Letters to Elsa won the grand-prix at the 2003 film festival in India. "Next year Russian movies will be included both in the contest program and the Panorama show," Mr. Kolosov said. According to him, Stanislav Govorukhin's film You Are Not Recommended to Offend Women will be shown as part of the contest program at the international festival opening in Cairo on December 1. Old Women is a subtle tragicomedy. It shows ten old women and a local fool living in a poor, God-forlorn Russian village. Both professional actors and amateurs starred in the movie. In spite of their misery, the women live a happy life full of funny tricks.
