Russian drug police have seized a total of 6.5 kg (14.3 lbs) of heroin in the Urals city of Yekaterinburg, a police statement said on Tuesday.

The first 5.5 kg was seized when police stopped a car.

"While searching the two passengers, one of them - a woman - was found to have six parcels of heroin under her jacket," the statement read.

The detainees said they were hired to transport the drug to the city of Pyshma some 10 km (six miles) north of Yekaterinburg.

In a separate development, a bag containing one kg (2.2 lbs) of heroin was found in car some 13 km (8 miles) from Yekaterinburg.
