Lyubov Sliska believes that the latest Ukrainian developments are going beyond the legal field
First Vice Speaker of the State Duma Lyubov Sliska believes that the latest Ukrainian developments are going beyond the legal field. "Yushchenko showed yesterday that one should live according to criminal laws instead of normal laws," Ms. Sliska told journalists, commenting on the actions of oppositional presidential candidate Viktor Yushchenko on Tuesday, who, swearing on the Book, proclaimed himself Ukrainian president. The vice speaker called Mr. Yushchenko "an imposter, like Grigory Otrepyev and Yemelyan Pugachev [characters of Russian history who proclaimed themselves tsars]." "Everything that happened goes beyond the legal field," said Ms. Sliska. She expressed bewilderment at the fact that Western human rights champions did not react to the developments. "Now everyone is trying to enthrone Yushchenko, and this is violation of all possible legislative norms and rules of political game, as official results have not been announced by the Ukrainian Central Election Commission," said Ms. Sliska. The State Duma vice speaker criticized Ukrainian parliamentarians and the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament) speaker, who did not prevent Mr. Yushchenko from "swearing." "This situation does not beautify Verkhovna Rada deputies or its chairman, who demonstratively left the session hall and let the situation develop the way it might," said Ms. Sliska. In her opinion, the Ukrainian parliament speaker "had to stay till the end and make everyone who welcomed Mr. Yushchenko's swearing on the Book come to their senses."
